Who We Are
Waterbeach Toddler Playgroup is a small playgroup that has been established for 30 years in the village. Originally, we started running from a children's home which is now Hatley Court residential home for the elderly.
Once the children's home was due to be taken over for residential care, a group of parents got together and formed the first committee which worked tirelessly to obtain the building that we are currently housed in. The portacabin was originally 3 offices from when the Grafton Centre was built in Cambridge.
The playgroup has also moved, albeit only a small distance, when Hatley Court extended their building in the late 90's, with help from soldiers based at the army barracks in the village.
We are run by a highly experienced team of staff. The staff team comprises:
Wayne Badcock - Playgroup Leader
Wayne has worked at the playgroup since 2003, taking on the role of Playgroup Leader since September 2004. He also has a number of roles within in the setting, including: ENCo (Equalities Named Co-ordinator), SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator), Child Protection Officer, PANCo (Physical Activity and Nutrition Co-ordinator) and Behaviour Management. Wayne holds a Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education (NNEB) and Level 4 NVQ in Children's Care, Learning and Development.
Gina Clark - Deputy Playgroup Leader
Gina has been at playgroup since 2008. She is also our second Child Protection Officer on the staff team. Gina holds an NVQ Level 2 and NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development.
Lesley Moxon - Playgroup Assistant
Lesley has been part of the staff team since 1997. Lesley holds an NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development.
Patricia Palmer - Bank Playgroup Assistant
Patricia is our longest serving member of staff, with over 26 years experience, starting in 1987.
Diane Hurst - Playgroup Assistant
Diane joined the team in 2017. Her own child attended the setting and she now works with us two days a week.
The Playgroup is managed by a committee of volunteer trustees. Officers for 2017/2018 are:
Co-Chairpersons: Sarah Maunder and Hannah Cons
Deputy Chairperson: Amey Fordham
Secretary: Catriona Shipp
Treasurer: Miriam Christensen
Financial Administrator: Julie Wentworth
The Committee meets at least twice a term and is responsible for the management of the Playgroup, setting fee levels and Fundraising. It is a great way to get involved in your child's Preschool experience and meet other parents. A new Committee is formed each year in September at the Playgroup AGM. However new parent members are welcome to join at any time during the year.
Please contact any of us, or the staff, if you would like to become a trustee of the charity. You do not have to be a parent of a child attending the setting and we welcome volunteers with a wide range of experience.
